Forestry - FY27 Forest Products Week

Ends on

Montana Forest Products Week 2026

Request for Proposals

Some of the most widely attended and popular activities of Montana Forest Products Week are the Walks in the Woods and Timber Tours hosted by community groups, educators, mills, foresters and forest landowners. We are pleased to announce that funding is available to support Walks in the Woods or Timber Tours held in celebration of Forest Products Week 2026.

Eligible applicants include but are not limited to: forest landowners who want to host a tour, foresters who want to guide a tour, schools/teachers and community groups/businesses who want to take students or participants on a tour, and local governments wanting to highlight a project success. Successful proposals will identify the Walk in the Woods or Timber Tour site and host, include a program of activities or agenda, and name the participating school/community group. Successful proposals must also include elements highlighting the importance of local wood products, working forest landscapes, or the forestry sector.

Allowable expenses may include event advertising, refreshments, transportation for large groups, porta-potties, and educational materials.

Staff salary is not eligible for funding.

Timeframe

Walks in the Woods or Timber Tours should take place during Forest Products Week, October 18th-24th, 2026.

Funding

Awards will typically be $500 or less, although awards up to $750 may be approved as requested on a limited basis depending on funding available. The maximum award is $750. There is a total of $3,000 available this year.

The funding for this project is derived from a federal award from the Conservation Education Program of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture (USDA), and subawarded by the Montana DNRC.

A guide on hosting your own Walk in the Woods can be found here.

Applications will be accepted beginning September 2, 2026. All applications received by September 16, 2026 will be competitively evaluated in the first review period. Then if funding remains, applications will be accepted and evaluated on an open and rolling basis until all funding is allocated or October 14, 2026.
